I could not get enough of this lady and her work this week. Maybe you've heard. Here's the story. A guy in his mid-20's went to a storage space auction, where they sell all of a person's belongings being kept in storage because they've stopped paying their storage fees. He found a box full of hundreds of negatives, which he then bought for $400. Once he started scanning images, he realized he'd found something really awesome, and tracked down everyone else who had bought boxes of negatives and bought them all. Totaling some 100,000 plus negatives and a box full of undeveloped rolls of film. Turns out it was all the work of a woman named Vivian Maier. She photographed what she saw on the streets of Chicago for 40-50 years, never showing her photographs to anyone. She never married, never had children. The people who knew her best were the couple of families she was a nanny for, and even they thought she was quite mysterious. Her photographs are beautiful, and the fact that they were produced in secret by a woman who kept to herself but absolutely adored photography makes them even better.
